Hansford Stable

Hansford Stable represents the sensitive conversion of a traditional farmstead outbuilding into a contemporary rural home. The design retains the integrity of its original stone and brick fabric under a slate roof while introducing modern interventions that enhance spatial quality and natural light. A vaulted first-floor living space forms the heart of the home, featuring open-plan arrangements and a Juliet balcony that frames views across the Taw Valley.

Externally, the scheme respects the site’s agricultural heritage while improving connectivity between indoor and outdoor spaces through raised timber decking and landscaped gardens. The building’s orientation and fenestration maximize solar gain and visual connection to the surrounding countryside, while underfloor heating and efficient insulation deliver modern performance standards. Set within a quarter-acre plot, Hansford Stable exemplifies a design approach that harmonizes vernacular character with contemporary living, offering a refined interpretation of rural architecture.
