Walnut Barn

Our Client had purchased the site and existing barn with the benefit of Class Q approval for conversion to a single dwelling. We were asked to design a new replacement dwelling that would be off-grid. This meant using passive design principles, an enhanced thermal envelope and use of various renewable and intelligent technologies. Further constraints included using material with low embodied carbon (glulam and timber frame) and procurement as a self-build project. The main living area features a gallery, open plan kitchen and dining area within a double height space, a fully glazed gable wall looking over the garden to the west and framed view of the magnificent and historic Walnut Tree. Our Client says "We enjoyed every moment working with Kevin and his team on our beautiful off-grid project, creating a home that feels healthy and beautiful to live in."
